Hair has always been a part of La'Rue. La'Rue grew up in a salon, watching transformations happen right in front of her. The scent of freshly washed hair, the rhythm of blow dryers, and the confidence that came with every finished style that walked out of her God Mom's salon became second nature to her before she could walk. La'Rue went from her carseat at the reception, to sweeping up hair from the salon floor, to owning and operating her own hair business. La'Rue was able to develop a blooming clientele and successful hair care line at the age of 19, known today as Sway by La'Rue.
In 2015, La'Rue attended Kennesaw State University, but her heart was always in the beauty world. That calling led La'Rue to Paul Mitchell, where she graduated in 2017 and earned her cosmetology license. That education deepened her understanding of hair care science and refined La'Rue's skills as an artist. She was able to converge the two educations to become unstoppable.
In 2024, La'Rue visited her sister in Costa Rica, and everything changed. Surrounded by lush rainforests and vibrant culture, she discovered the power of native botanicals that women have used for generations. These ingredients weren’t just natural, they were luxurious, potent, and rooted in centuries of beauty traditions.
Inspired, she gathered oils and materials and got to work on the perfect formula right on her sister's kitchen counter. La'Rue returned home to Atlanta with a vision: to create a hair care line that honors both nature and results. La'Rue began formulating a product that was both effective and indulgent. After months of testing and perfecting, Sway by La'Rue Opulence Oil was born.
